How to kick a soccer ball? All you need to know

Many people would like to play soccer but don’t know how to kick a soccer ball. Kicking a soccer ball is the most essential part of the game,  but once you master this skill, there is no doubt you will dominate the game. And if you want to master this skill, you need some serious practice and patience.

If you want to become a good soccer player or are already a soccer player but do not know the proper way, this is the right place to learn the perfect technique, so let’s get started.

There are two main approaches to kicking the soccer ball, kicking the soccer ball with power, which is known as, shooting the ball and passing the soccer ball also known simply as passing in the soccer world. So today, I will discuss each of these with a proper explanation. so let’s get started.

Kicking the ball with the power

Maintaining the distance from the ball

There are two situations in soccer in which you try to kick the ball with power. It’s either when you are taking a free kick or when you try to hit the net and soccer a goal while dribbling, depending on whether you are taking a free kick or dribbling. It would be best if you positioned yourself so that your stronger foot would be striking the ball.

Your stronger foot can be your right foot or left foot. But before approaching the ball, you must decide from which foot you will kick the ball and then position yourself for it according to that, maintaining three or four steps, or some players do maintain five steps distance from the ball, and then you start running toward the ball.

For an instant, if you want the ball with extreme power, you will hit it, maintaining five steps distance for the runner-up, and if you’re going to shoot the ball slow, then your length should be two or three-step. Kicking the soccer ball with power also depends upon the technique, so it doesn’t mean the more you keep the distance from the ball while kicking it, the faster it will travel.

So if your technique is better, you can shoot the ball with much more speed than a player who maintains more distance than you while kicking the soccer ball.

The runner-up toward the ball

Many people think that running is all about power and speed, but it’s not always the case. As you approach the ball for the kick, shorten your strides.

This is simplest to do when the ball is set and can be seen when professional free kicks take free kicks. During a run, quickly shorten your strides right before you choose to shoot for more power and control.

Placing your nonkicking foot

I often soccer players in the field set their feet behind the soccer ball before striking it. This will cause you to hit the ball with your toe. It would be best if you planted your standing foot next to the ball, not behind it.

If you stay close enough, This brings your body over the ball and allows for more power in your swing, and brings your kicking foot to the back to generate power to shoot the ball. If you stay behind the ball, you will lift it or miss the target or hit your shooting foot with the ground, which could cause severe injury or even end up breaking the leg.

Contracting with the ball

Contracting with the ball is a skill that helps you control where the ball goes when you kick the soccer ball. When you reach the ball and are about to hit it, focus on where you want to send the ball. As your non-kicking foot plants, point it in the direction of your intended target. This simple trick will help ensure accuracy and power on every shot.

There are three points on your foot where you can make the contract with the ball. The inside of your foot, the laces area, and the outside of your foot. If you hit the ball with the inside of your foot, you can generate an outswing on it, while the ball will not travel much faster because you can not generate much power with the inside of the foot.

If you hit the ball with your laces area, it will generate power, the purpose of this technique is so that players can get more power behind their shots, making them harder for goalies to save., and if you hit the ball with the outside of your foot, it will not generate more power, and it will not travel faster, but it will have a high in-swing on it.

The image above will help you find the spots where you can hit the ball, and it is also showing you the possibilities where the soccer ball probably goes when you shoot it on that point.

Follow-through

The follow-through is an integral part of kicking a soccer ball. When you kick the ball, your foot should stay in contact with the ball until it leaves your foot. Your leg should end up upraised at an angle away from where you kicked. This ensures that all of the momenta from your leg has been used to make a powerful shot.

If you stop your foot when it hits the ball, your momentum will stop, and there won’t be any power behind your shot or kick. You want to keep moving forward so that all of your energy transfers into the ball and is not wasted by stopping at contact with it.

Kicking the ball for the pass

The second situation while kicking the soccer ball could be passing it, so let’s discuss the proper technique of how you can kick the ball to pass it to your teammates.

Look up to your teammates

If you are a soccer player, one of the most important things to remember is to look up. When you’re passing the ball, look up for teammates or targets before kicking it so your pass will be more accurate and have a better chance of success.

If your teammates are not in the proper position, then don’t kick it until they are. Otherwise, your teammate will have to adjust their position after receiving the ball from you, which can lead to losing the ball and possible mistakes on both ends.

Placing your non-kicking foot

A person can be a great soccer player if they know how to pass the ball. A good soccer player will always keep an eye on the ball and control it while passing it off to their teammate. It can make or break your team’s success on the field.

It would be best to remember that your non-kicking foot should always point towards the person you pass the ball to. This way, you have a better chance of completing a pass because your momentum will help carry them through.

Hit on the right spot

The main thing to remember is that it’s not about how hard you kick but rather where and when. It would be best to hit the ball in the right spot. Otherwise, you can miss your target. The best way to learn how to kick a soccer ball correctly is by doing so with an experienced coach or player.

The spots are also highlighted in the image. As you can see, the red area on a soccer ball, it indicates the spot where you hit the ball, and It must go in the direction mentioned with it. So follow the image to get fantastic accuracy on your passes.

Follow-through

When you continue to kick after contact has been made and until the ball leaves your foot. A player must use follow-through because it can make a huge difference in how far and where they want their kick to go and how accurate it will be at reaching its target.
